About this event

Voices for Change: Music Transforming Conflict

Join us in person for a special collaboration with American University's College of Arts and Sciences and the Aspen Institute. Immerse yourself in the transformative power of music as we delve into its ability to heal wounds, bridge divides, and unite communities. This event is a unique opportunity to witness firsthand how music can break down barriers and ignite conversations that lead to lasting change.

Performances by the Jerusalem Youth Chorus and AU Chamber Singers will be followed by a panel discussion with Micah Hendler, Founder and Artistic Director, Jerusalem Youth Chorus; Amer Abu Arqub, Executive Director, Jerusalem Youth Chorus; and choral members in conversation with Simran Jeet Singh, Executive Director, Religion & Society Program, Aspen Institute.

The Jerusalem Youth Chorus is a choral and dialogue program for Palestinian and Israeli youth in Jerusalem. The evening will seek to explore the historic challenges faced by both Israeli and Palestinian communities and shed light on how music can build bridges that will ensure a brighter future for all.

The AU Chamber Singers are a select student vocal ensemble under the direction of Daniel Abraham. Their performance repertoire includes works drawn from all periods of music and varies greatly from early music masterworks to contemporary a cappella literature.

American University's College of Arts and Sciences is dedicated to excellence in teaching, scholarship, the arts, and service to its local, national, and international communities.

The Aspen Institute is a global nonprofit organization committed to realizing a free, just, and equitable society. Founded in 1949, the Institute drives change through dialogue, leadership, and action to help solve the most important challenges facing the United States and the world.

CAS and The Aspen Institute are grateful to Bruce Levenson WCL '76 and Karen Levenson, for their generous support of this event.
